The Sakamoto family convenience store is a familiar setting in this anime. In ep 2, Shin Asakura begins to adapt to the family, including the rule not to kill. However, he and Sakamoto meet killers who can shake that principle. Despite the conflict, this episode still presents an atmosphere that is not too heavy for the audience.

Sakamoto Days eps 2 begins with humor, as the once-violent killer is dismayed when his wife threatens to divorce him if he breaks the family’s prohibition against killing. This adds to the humor when the story switches to Chinatown, where Sakamoto shops for his family.

Episode 2 takes a drastic turn when a girl bumps into Sakamoto and Shin who are being chased by a group of unfriendly-looking people. The episode’s main focus turns to Lu Shaotang, a newcomer, and the conspiracy that threatens his life. Although the beginning seems relaxed, the episode suddenly brings tension thanks to the plot involving Lu.

Lu is a contrasting character to Sakamoto and his best friend, Shin. With powerful kicks and graceful tai chi moves, Lu embarks on an adventure full of energy. However, he gets caught up in a conspiracy to kill him for his family’s wealth, further complicating the plot and pushing the villains to extreme measures.

Sakamoto Days eps 2 is action-packed and exhilarating, but still focuses on Lu’s journey to survive and make things right. Eps 2 quickly resolves Lu’s personal arc, making him draw strength from past pain. Lu’s story also helps Sakamoto remember his promise to his wife and come out of his isolation.

Sakamoto and Shin are caught in the crossfire despite Lu being the main target of the attack. Shin serves as the audience’s point of view, showing the Hee Brothers’ cruelty with swords. The story highlights the character differences between the bloodthirsty Bancho and the calmer Son due to his seniority.

Shin plays an important role in revealing Sakamoto’s thoughts through his esper powers. In one episode, their relationship develops from enemies to friends. Funnily enough, Shin often helps Sakamoto with bandages whenever his former mentor is injured. Shin serves as a vigilant bodyguard, serving Sakamoto without wanting anything else.

Sakamoto Days’ animation has elaborate backgrounds that remain high quality even when the location changes. The visual details, such as colored lines and metal discoloration, provide a closeness to reality despite the use of simple digital art.

However, the frame rate during normal conversations looks shaky, which can be a nuisance while not detracting from the overall quality of the episode. This could be an ongoing issue for this anime in the future.

TMS Entertainment manages to deliver impressive action in Sakamoto Days, making viewers forget the shortcomings of other animations. It stands out as an action anime, with complex battle art that adds speed and energy, just as viewers expect.

Sakamoto Days eps 2 offers impressive martial arts action for fans of anime and the genre. Sakamoto’s fight against the Hee Brothers is a highlight, with sharp and deadly animations. The fighters’ movements were clear and well-coordinated, despite the environmental damage around them.
