Microsoft just announced a major update to its flagship operating system, Windows 11, on Saturday (10/18/2025). This update introduces a revolutionary feature called Copilot Action, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) agent that aims to change the way users interact with their PCs and laptops.
Copilot Action is designed as an AI agent that allows users to control the operating system, navigate, and perform various tasks using only voice commands, without having to touch the device screen.
This feature allows users to verbally “talk to” their Windows 11 PCs to execute complex tasks, including interacting with desktop applications, files, and web-based services.
Yusef Mehdi, Consumer Chief Marketing Officer at Microsoft, explained the potential of this feature.
“Explain the task you want to complete in your own words, and the agent will try to complete it by interacting with the desktop and web applications.”
Copilot Action Multitasking Capabilities

Microsoft Copilot Action has a wide range of functions focused on improving work efficiency. Some examples of this AI agent’s capabilities include:
- Automatically write and send email replies.
- Organize and sort files or folders in the background.
- Analyze and extract important information from PDF documents.
- Sorting vacation photos.
While Copilot Action performs tasks in the background, users can remain focused on other work. This AI agent will display progress updates in the Copilot app and will request user confirmation, ensuring that the actions it takes are in line with the user’s wishes.
How to Access and Availability of Features
To access this AI agent, users can open the Copilot app and select the Copilot Action menu. In the future, users will be able to run it even more easily by simply saying “Hey Copilot” without the need for manual access.
However, Microsoft notes that this feature is disabled by default (default setting).
Users who have received this update must first activate it by following these steps: Settings > System > AI Components > Agent Tools > Experimental Agent Features. If you cannot find this menu, it is likely that you have not yet received this AI feature update.
The update containing Copilot Action will be released to Windows users through Copilot Labs in the near future. Unfortunately, Microsoft has not specified a specific launch date. This feature will be available in an experimental version for further refinement after Microsoft receives extensive feedback from users.
The development of Copilot Action is part of Microsoft’s major effort to enrich the Windows 11 OS, especially after the discontinuation of support for Windows 10 on October 14. According to Yusef Mehdi, this is the company’s way of rebuilding the true AI PC.
“We feel that our vision is to rewrite the entire operating system around AI and build what essentially makes a true AI PC,” he concluded.
