Amazon MGM Studios has reportedly been eyeing two actresses to play Lara Croft in the latest Tomb Raider series.
The character of Lara Croft has been played by two famous actresses before, Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Angelina Jolie was the first actress to bring this character to the big screen in the live action adaptation of the game in the early 2000s.
1. Cast of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider Series
Deadline reports that Prime Video has put together a shortlist for the Tomb Raider series. Some of the actresses who could potentially play Lara Croft are Sophie Turner of Game of Thrones fame and Lucy Boynton of Bohemian Rhapsody fame.
Both are likely to audition for the role soon. On the other hand, there are other names like Deadpool and Wolverine’s Emma Corrin, and Speak No Evil’s Mackenzie Davis, but these two actors are unlikely to audition for the role. Amazon MGM Studios is yet to comment on this matter.
Additionally, Turner was recently recognized for her role in the crime drama Joan. Meanwhile, Boynton has also appeared in a small role in the movie Barbie which releases in 2023.
Their abilities and experience in a variety of roles make them attractive candidates for the character of Lara. With their dominance on the shortlist, it’s clear that the casting process is going smoothly, and we may hear an announcement about the next Tomb Raider by the end of 2024.
2. Potentially Successful
Currently, the franchise is undergoing an exciting revival after the success of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft on Netflix and the recent announcement of the Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered collection.
All of this makes for a surprising update to Waller-Bridge’s live-action series and Prime Video comes at a very opportune time.
Amazon seems to have a lot of faith in this series project. Apart from Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creator of the Tomb Raider series, who has been developing the story and series for quite some time, Amazon’s streaming platform also seems to have found the right formula for adapting games.
As you know, Amazon successfully launched the Fallout series in April 2024. Currently, they are preparing to prepare season 2.
Although the same success may not be achieved by Tomb Raider, if it uses the right formula and chooses a suitable cast for the character of Lara Croft, it is not impossible that the series will also achieve success.
