How long has Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) been away leaving Earth? Let’s see the discussion right away, shall we?
Before continuing as usual, I remind you that this discussion will contain SPOILER episode 1 of the Secret Invasion series which airs on June 21, 2023 on Disney+Hotstar.
It’s already been a week. But just in case you’re one of those who’s just about to watch this week as well as episode 2, well isn’t it wrong for me to give you this warning? Anyway, if you don’t want to get any SPOILERS at all, be careful!
Nick Fury
Okay so as we first found out through the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), it was revealed that Fury, who throughout the movie helped Peter Parker aka Spider-Man (Tom Holland), is none other than the shape-shifting Talos (Ben Mendelsohn).
Meanwhile, the real Fury is in space with some Skrulls, busy working on something, well that something is S.A.B.E.R. S.A.B.E.R is basically a space defense system.
Fury says that S.A.B.E.R is a highly capable defense system to ward off terrestrial threats that are as dangerous or more dangerous than Thanos (Josh Brolin).
How long is he in outer space?
Well as revealed in episode 1 of Secret Invasion, Fury is said to have left Earth for a very long time. To the point that he only returned after Talos asked Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) to contact him.
Based on this fact, then how long did Nick Fury leave earth?
After Avengers: Endgame
So as reported from both episode 1 of Secret Invasion, as well as ScreenRant, Fury left Earth after he returned from the Blip event. More or less after Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Well he was “off” the ground for 2 years. The MCU timeline does not refer to the release year of the real film. So even though Avengers: Endgame is released in 2019, the year it happens based on the movie’s timeline is 2023 (well, this year!).
Then Secret Invasion as we know it after the series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022). Now this series takes place around 2024-2025. Okay, let’s still take 2025. So we can say that Fury only returns to Earth (episode 1 of Secret Invasion) if not in 2025, then early 2026.
For more certainty, let’s just wait for the official confirmation of the next timeline further, okay?
