Netflix to Produce Live Action Scooby-Doo

Warner Bors, Midnight Radio, Berlanti Productions, along with Netflix, will be working on an 8-episode live action Scooby-Doo.

Netflix will soon be looking for new actors for a live action Scooby-Doo series. The series is a new take on Warner Bros. ‘ classic Scooby-Doo cartoon and will explore the origins of the group of teenage mystery hunters and their famous dog.

The project was created by Midnight Radio, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television. Netflix agreed to start the project last spring after intense competition.

This popular cartoon was created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears in 1969. In the same year, Warner Bros. launched the animated series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You which aired on CBS until 1976.

This Scooby-Doo series on Netflix will have 8 episodes, telling the story of events at a summer camp. A strange murder is allegedly taking place there. However, Scooby-Doo, the Great Dane, suddenly went missing after allegedly seeing the murder.

His friends, Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Fred, then team up to find Scooby-Doo and solve the murder mystery.

Currently, there is no word on the actors who will be playing in the live-action version of Scooby-Doo. Netflix has also not announced when the animated series will be released.

Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series at Netflix, stated, “The Mystery Inc gang is back in action! We’re thrilled to bring Scooby-Doo back to TV as a live action series for the first time.”

According to Friedlander, the series has had a huge influence on pop culture. With the theme of deep friendship, the series is loved by many generations, quoting Variety on Friday, March 28, 2025.

You should know, this is not the first time the Scooby-Doo character has been adapted into live-action. Previously, this cartoon had already been a live-action movie entitled Scooby-Doo in 2002.

The movie featured stars such as Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini. Scooby-Doo (2002) was a huge success in theaters, earning US$250 million worldwide.

This success led to a sequel, Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed (2004), and then the television movie Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins which was released in 2009. Since the late 1960s, Scooby-Doo has also been an animated series in various versions.
