James Gunn Shares First Look at Superman and Krypto

Through his personal Twitter account, James Gunn has shared the first look of Superman and Krypto from the DCU universe that will be released in 2025.

James Gunn has confirmed that Krypto will be present in the Superman movie which is planned for release in 2025. This will be Krypto’s first appearance in the DC Universe. The first look at Superman and Krypto that Gunn shared indicates that this project is after the filming of the Superman reboot is complete.

Although Krypto was not spotted on set, a video showing Mister Terrific apparently training the dog to fly, gives a strong indication of his role in the wider DC character line-up. As such, Krypto’s arrival in the DCU is now almost certain.

James Gunn shared a new image of David Corenswet’s Superman DCU version with Krypto on Twitter. This image is the official first look of the Superman movie which will be released in 2025.

The director not only confirmed that Krypto will be in the movie. He also revealed that the character was inspired by Ozu, his dog. He explained how his personal experience influenced the development of this DCU movie.

Gunn adopted Ozu after starting to write the story for the Superman movie. Seeing firsthand the changes in Ozu, who previously never interacted with humans and had damaged his home. Then until he can finally adapt, become a source of inspiration for the character Krypto in the DCU.

2. Based on Inspiration from All-Star Superman Comics

Gunn has shared several comic inspirations that influenced next year’s Superman movie. Now, he’s decided to feature Krypto in a DCU movie in a way that clearly references one of those inspirations.

Superman and Krypto are seen sitting on the Moon, observing Earth from space, similar to the moment that occurred in issue 6 of “All-Star Superman.” This comic series depicts the essence of who Superman really is, where he faces death but still continues to act heroically and interact with his loved ones.

Gunn also shared the original image of Superman and Krypto from the comics in his post. This doesn’t mean Clark Kent will meet his demise in the upcoming Superman movie in 2025. However, the themes in the comics that explore what makes Superman a hopeful and beloved hero are very much in line with what Gunn wants to achieve in his Man of Steel reboot.

The image hints that Superman and Krypto will probably have a close relationship in the movie, but whether that relationship is established from the start or they get to know each other throughout the movie remains to be seen.
