I guess by the time this post is uploaded, most of us have already watched John Wick: Chapter 4. But if any of you haven’t, well sorry guys SPOILER ALERT!!!

John Wick Killed

Yes as written in the title of this article, the badass assassin played by Keanu Reeves, finally died in his 4th movie.

He died after suffering an “accumulation” of severe gunshot wounds inflicted by his fellow assassin and former best friend, Caine (Donnie Yen).

But before dying, Wick still managed to kill the main villain of the fourth series, Vincent Bisset de Gramont (Bill Skarsgard). But once again, because his wounds were already deep and severe, Wick slowly but surely fell down the stairs.

Killed or Not?

And after seeing him slowly collapse, we see Wick’s two mentors/friends/father figures, Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) and Winston Scott (Ian McShane) standing staring at a tombstone with Wick’s name on it.

Now when we saw that scene, some of us believed that Wick was already dead. Some of us, however, believe that Wick is not dead. That is, the scene we saw was just a “trick” action of the movie.

Seeing the confusion/dilemma, it is no wonder that until now many of us are very eager to know the certainty.

Subjective Fan Theory

Of course, to know the real answer, we have to wait until Reeves or the director and producer of the John Wick franchise, Chad Stahelski gives the official confirmation.

But according to my subjective fan theory, it seems that Wick did not die. Yes, if we look and consider all the accumulated injuries he suffered, especially in his final duel with Caine, LOGICALLY he did slowly die on the steps.

Moreover, Winston in the ending has already said goodbye. But still, I think John Wick is still alive.

The Graveyard is a Metaphor

Why do I say that? Well, in terms of his character that we’ve seen in the previous 3 movies, Wick is said to have 9 lives or even 100 lives. In other words, despite having suffered various life-threatening injuries, he still survived.

Then in my opinion, the tombstones with his name on them are all metaphors. That is, John Wick who died was not a physical body. Rather, what died was his status as a hitman.

Also, the tombstone symbolizes that the relationship/conflict between Wick and the High Table organization is 100% broken. As a result once again, the tombstone symbolizes that he has 100% parted with his past, and he is now back to being John Wick “an ordinary person.”

Performing Again in Ballerina

Now another aspect that can be used as an argument that John Wick is indeed alive, is related to the fact that Reeves will return as Wick in his spin-off franchise, Ballerina.

Furthermore, as reported by ScreenRant, reportedly in addition to Ballerina set between the films John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4, also in this movie, the movie’s main character, Rooney (Ana de Armas), will fight with Wick.

Indeed, the movie could have been set or ended before the moment Wick climbed the ladder to duel Cain in the climactic fight scene of John Wick: Chapter 4, so yes, if so, then the scenario of Wick dying is 100% legit.

But as I said above, let’s just wait for more certainty whether it’s from Reeves’ official statement, Stahelski, or until we see Ballerina on June 7, 2024.
