Recently, Jenefer Brown, who serves as EVP and Head of Global Products & Experiences at Lionsgate, has announced that the John Wick 5 movie project is in development.
John Wick first appeared in 2014, telling the story of an assassin who is forced to return to a dark world. The narrative is increasingly brutal, attracting the attention of the most powerful gangsters from around the world to hunt him down.
At the end of John Wick 4, there was a hint of Baba Yaga’s death. So, how will this story develop in Jonh Wick 5?
1. Lionsgate Boss Confirms John Wick 5 Movie
After the overwhelming success of John Wick: Chapter 4, many fans assumed that the story of the hitman was over. However, recently, Jenefer Brown, EVP and Global Head of Product and Experience at Lionsgate, has confirmed that John Wick 5 is in development.
“The world continues to evolve in amazing ways. We are very excited about the launch of Ballerina, the first spin-off. In addition, we have also confirmed that we are developing a John Wick 5 movie. I believe there are many other spin-offs that will follow, including television series and video games,” Brown said in an interview with ComicBook.
This announcement was made at the John Wick Experience premiere event that took place in Las Vegas.
John Wick may be from the movies, but the franchise has also ventured into the world of exciting games, such as the John Wick Experience in Las Vegas. Here, visitors are invited to experience the life of the infamous assassin in style, with interactive elements, themed sets, and cinematic narration bringing audiences into an action-packed world.
2. Is John Wick Really Dead?
Of course, the announcement came as a shock to a large number of fans, especially since the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 indicated that Keanu Reeves ‘ character was dead. However, Brown has not provided any additional information regarding the continuation of the story or whether Wick will actually reappear.
“We have made it known that we are working on the John Wick 5 project… [John Wick] may [die]. We’re all waiting with great anticipation to find out what happens next.”
On the other hand, Keanu Reeves once expressed his opinion that John Wick should no longer exist. However, he will still be cast in the spin-off film Ballerina, which is set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025. It is still unclear whether John Wick 5 will actually bring back the character.
With new projects like Ballerina and the possibility of more spin-offs and games, the world of John Wick still seems to be growing. Fans can now only look forward to how the creative team will work on John Wick 5, and whether the legendary hitman will return to action.
