Split Fiction is reportedly getting a movie adaptation. A bidding competition for adaptation rights is currently underway.

Apparently, Split Fiction will be getting a movie adaptation: Just a few weeks after the game’s launch. Variety reports that Story Kitchen is looking for writers, actors, and directors. The move comes in response to what Variety calls a “bidding competition” for the rights to adapt the game into a movie.

This information was first revealed at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) taking place in San Francisco. Variety, which is in attendance at GDC this week, continues to follow the progress of this bid competition. Additional details and details about the project will follow soon.

Representatives from Hazelight Studios and Story Kitchen have yet to respond to requests for comment made on Thursday. “Split Fiction” by Josef Fares, director and studio head of Hazelight, with Sebastian Johansson, combines fantasy and science fiction elements.

The story focuses on two writers who are trapped in a world of their own creation. The game offers a variety of gameplay mechanics, including split-screen combat, platforming challenges, as well as various unique abilities for each character.

The game was a tremendous success with both players and critics. Split Fiction received many positive reviews and achieved very high sales. Hazelight revealed that the game sold over two million copies within the first week after its release on March 6, and the sales figures continue to soar.

Split Fiction was first introduced by Fares during the 2024 Game Awards. However, they started the development process immediately after the very impressive “It Takes Two” in 2021. In April 2022, Amazon took over the movie rights for “It Takes Two”.

While there is no official information on who will be involved in the film project, many fans are hoping that Josef Fares will serve as the creative consultant, given his unique take on storytelling.

If this adaptation is able to maintain the richness of the narrative and the tension of the in-game action, Split Fiction could be one of the most anticipated movie adaptations for gaming and movie fans.
