Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be the second big movie from the DCU after Superman which releases next year. James Gunn’s Supergirl movie itself already has an official shooting schedule.
This information was revealed at the New York Comic Con 2024 event yesterday. Gunn appeared on DC’s panel to promote their upcoming series Creature Commandos.
As we all know, James Gunn is trying to reshape the DCU into a new cinematic universe. According to him, if we believe what he says, we will get something very epic and extraordinary in various aspects in the DCU project.
1. Supergirl Shooting Schedule and the Emergence of New Characters
Shooting for the movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will begin in the UK in January 2025. This gives ample time to create a great movie and edit it into a better cinematic experience.
The movie hopes to expand the world of the Superman movie, where Supergirl will appear for the first time, albeit not in a leading role.
James Gunn then also gave a little spoiler about the movie. In this case, Gunn confirmed that the Supergirl movie will present a new sidekick for Kara Zor-El, Ruthye Marye Knoll.
According to Gunn, he has yet to announce the star of the character. However, he has already seen the screet test impressions of the actors who are candidates for the character.
James Gunn has been highly appreciative of the project, and reportedly, the script is so heartfelt that it could bring tears to anyone’s eyes. This is not surprising, given that the comic from which the story is based is one of the best Supergirl stories ever.
During the New York Comic-Con, James Gunn expressed his excitement for the project and also shared some information about the film’s production process.
2. Will Release 2026
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released in 2026. If James Gunn’s statement is true, the film will be fully ready by then and can also capitalize on the potential success of Superman, which hits theaters late next year.
James Gunn confirmed that the movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will adapt Tom King’s famous comic of the same name. Of course, there will be some changes made, as adapting an entire comic into one movie is necessary – but the core of the story will be retained.
