However, at the end of last year, Amazon announced that the project would be taken over by Ron Moore. Since then, information about the project has been minimal until Moore provided some details last week.
Now, Amazon Prime Video has provided the latest update on the live action adaptation of God of War! After a long wait, showrunner Ron Moore confirmed that the series will consist of two first seasons. This information came up in Moore’s latest interview on Battlestar Galactica actress Katee Sackhoff‘s podcast .
God of War series will be faithful to the game’s story
While plot and cast details have yet to be revealed, fans are hoping that this adaptation stays true to Kratos’ journey. Especially from the Nordic mythology stories that appeared in the games God of War (2018) and Ragnarök (2022).
With the growing popularity of the franchise, Amazon will surely face a huge challenge in realizing an adaptation that satisfies its loyal fans.
In a conversation on Katee Sackhoff’s podcast, Moore revealed that he is working hard with the writing team to develop the first two seasons of the series.
He also added that although he hasn’t played the game much, he is confident that he can maintain the fidelity of the storyline. “With the already very visual content of the game, I don’t think the adaptation process will be too difficult,” Moore explained.
Can the God of War series achieve the same level of success as other game adaptations, such as The Last of Us or Fallout?
While it is still too early to make predictions, many are optimistic that with Ron Moore as the creator and director, the series will deliver an epic experience just like the game.
Given that the project is still in the early stages of development, it is likely that God of War will only air in 2026. This makes it Prime Video’s second major game adaptation project after Fallout, which has achieved great success and is currently in production for a second season.
