Director Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead franchise has reportedly been officially canceled by Netflix. The streaming platform reportedly has no plans to develop further stories.
As we already know, the Army of the Dead franchise offers an interesting narrative about a post-apocalyptic world where zombies have taken over the earth from humans.
Although the theme is quite common, Zack Snyder presents a different story element by featuring a special group of people trying to steal something from a safe amidst the chaos of the zombie world.
The Army of the Dead movie itself premieres in May 2021, followed by the release of a prequel titled Army of Thieves in October 2021.
Netflix Army of the Dead Franchise Project Canceled
As of now, there is no certainty whether Zack Snyder will start production on Army of the Dead 2 soon. However, the director revealed that he has planned the development of the story and universe in the long run.
However, it seems that Snyder’s plans will not be realized. According to a report from The Wrap, Netflix has made the decision to cancel a number of planned projects for the franchise.
The project also includes the animated spinoff Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. In addition, there are also plans to make a spinoff movie called Planet of the Dead.
Unfortunately, they did not reveal the reason behind this cancellation. However, it is possible that criticism from various sources and the unsatisfactory results of the movie Rebel Moon are to blame.
While Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves were significant successes, Snyder’s two Rebel Moon projects were not. Rebel Moon did not receive a positive response, especially for the second movie, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver.
The Rebel Moon movie itself focuses on Kora. He is a former Imperium soldier, who is trying to recruit warriors from across the galaxy to fight the Imperium.
Although the Army of the Dead franchise has officially stopped, word has it that various other collaboration plans are still ongoing.
