Streaming platform Netflix has expressed interest in creating a live action version of the Avatar series: The Legend of Korra. Currently, the live action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender airing on Netflix is gaining a lot of attention.
This is because Netflix successfully adapted the animated series into a live action version successfully. Of course, this is an achievement that director M. Night Shyamalan’s movie theater film did not achieve.
The series is considered a successful continuation of the positive trend of anime to live action adaptations, a trend that Netflix successfully continued with the One Piece adaptation.
After this success, Netflix seems to be interested in making another Avatar series, The Legend of Korra, according to what one of the executive producers, Jabbar Raisani, said.
1. Speculation on The Legend of Korra Live Action
In an interview with The Direct during PaleyFest 2024, Raisani was asked about speculations regarding The Legend of Korra adaptation.
He expressed interest in adapting the series, mentioning that he would be interested in everything in that world. Avatar: The Legend of Korra, the follow-up to The Last Airbender or The Legend of Aang, was released in 2012, a few years after the first series ended.
The Korra series has a more modern setting than the previous series, and the characters in the previous series have now grown into adults or even elderly.
2. More complex story
The Legend of Korra series offers a more complex and mature story than The Last Airbender, including a deeper dive into politics, violence, and sex relationships. In addition, viewers are treated to new control techniques and further explanation of the Avatar universe.
It comes as no surprise that Netflix and the production team are interested in bringing the Korra series to the screen. This is because of its popularity that is not inferior to The Last Airbender. However, fans looking forward to this series may need to be patient for a little longer.
This is because Netflix is currently busy working on the adaptation of Book Two and Book Three of the series. This means that there are still two more seasons to come for the series.
