Variety reports that the story of Elvira, who is one of Cinderella’s stepsisters, will be adapted into a movie called The Ugly Stepsister. The movie will combine horror and comedy elements.
While details about The Ugly Stepsister are still scant, Emilie Blichfeldt, who directed the movie, has revealed some details through an exclusive interview. She stated that the movie will present a different perspective of the classic fairy tale.
It can be stated that Emilie’s action in choosing to highlight a character who had not previously received attention was quite a bold move.
“With this beauty horror I want to seduce the audience into the story of the girl who dreams of marrying the fairytale prince. It’s about time that the story of Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters was elevated and developed as an iconic feminist narrative about the tyranny of beauty,” says Emilie Blichfeldt.
The Ugly Stepsister will be full of gore
Emilie Blichfeldt plans to bring the story of Cinderella’s stepsister Elvira to the big screen through the movie The Ugly Stepsister. She revealed that the inspiration for the movie came from the Brothers Grimm version of the story. Where Elvira bravely takes the extreme step of cutting off her toe to force the foot into the glass slipper.
“Reinventing the Brothers Grimm version of Cinderella, where her stepsisters cut off her toes to make her shoes fit,” says Emilie.
This movie with horror and comedy elements will be full of many gory scenes. We will witness Elvira’s attempts to compete with her enchanting stepsister. In a kingdom where beauty is a brutal industry, Elvira does not hesitate to take any steps to win the attention of the prince.
According to reports, this beauty horror movie will feature Lea Myren, an actress from Norway. This movie, titled The Ugly Stepsister, will be her acting debut.
Besides featuring Lea, the movie also brings together Thea Sofie Loch Naess, who is best known for The Last Kingdom (2018). Then there is Ane Dahl Torp who received praise for her performance in The Wave (2015).
